Nearing the Halfway Point

This week I managed to hit the 40% mark on Alignment, Book II’s first draft. The halfway point is in sight! On average, I’m writing about 1,000 words a day, give or take, which has helped the progress bar continue to advance at a nice pace. It’s crazy to think that by the end of this year I’ll have written two epic fantasy novels. Even though only one will be published this year, that’s still a really exciting accomplishment that I wasn’t sure would ever happen.

Book II has entered that delicate phase where it’s possible to get bogged down in the “mirky middle” and lose momentum. So far, I’ve managed to keep that from happening, though, and truth be told, things are kicking into gear story-wise, which makes it more fun to write. I just finished a chapter today that came in a little over 7,300 words, the largest yet for Alignment. When I get into a writing groove it’s so hard to break away when life demands my attention. What I would give to have a writing cabin hidden deep in some forgotten, enchanted forest where I could escape and leave the world behind (until the first draft is complete, at least)!

Regarding Awakening, I am gearing up to work on a very exciting surprise for readers that will be included in the book. That project will get fully under way in June, and I’m ridiculously excited about it because I have friends flying in from all over the world to be a part of it. Intrigued? Good. That was my diabolical plan all along…
